Smile Coolant level sensor

The coolant level sensor in the bottom of the expansion tank on my 95 X300 is positioned very, very close to the air induction pipe. The connector on the sensor is almost touching the pipe. There is no way to turn the sensor as it fits in a recessed area on the bottom of the expansion tank. The area that it is closest to on the air induction pipe is a boss protursion. It is so close to this protrusion that normal engine motion sometimes knocks it loose. The only solution I have come up with is to file about a tenth of an inch off the edge of the boss. If I do that am I going to file thru that area of the pipe and leave a hole that just won't do? I'm looking for your opinion or any better ideas.

Thanks guys.

sounds like the brake-cooling duct on that side....A hole (says Ahol)shouldn't hurt anything...but I'd investigate if maybe the brake duct is out of place and in the middle stages of "getting lost" first.....https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ke-duct-61956/

I would figure out why the thing is in the wrong place- mine does not contact. Do you have a broken engine mount?

I was able to make some adjustments in the location of the air induction pipe to gain about a quarter of an inch clearance. I will check the motor mounts. But the location fo the air filter box is one of the contributing things that control the location of the pipe. Still thinking about filing some off that boss sticking out.

Not sure what you are talking about when you refer to the brake duct. The near contact is with the air induction pipe that goes from the air filter to the throttle body.

I also have a sneaky feeling that Jaguar changed the location of the sensor in later production cars. Mine is a very early 1995 car.

Me neither, at this point. Wait!!! I was reading carelessly! You said "coolant level sensor, I "saw" washer level sensor for some reason - probably because I recently lit that one...and My air filter is in the left front corner, my washer bottle in the right front, both have brake cooling ducts underneath them. SO that's why I was down low around the brake cooling ducts. Right, sensor in coolant tank and air tube...same side of car....I'll be ok.....when the medication kicks in......sorry for the confusion....
