OK, after being told repeatably that my no-start condition could be associated with corrosion in the Papa Indy 1 connectors, I finally pulled them apart this evening. On this 1997 XJ6 there are two connectors down by the lower part of the washer bottle neck. The closest one to the motor is grey and the one farthest away is black.

Once I pulled both connections apart and carefully pried out the orange inner liners in the female side of the connection, I found that the grey one closest to the engine has a serious amount of corrosion in the female sockets and the black one has some corrosion in a much smaller number of pin sockets.

My question now is what to do about this? How have other folks cleaned these connections once they are corroded like this?

I will try to take photos of the corrosion in the pin sockets tomorrow or perhaps later on this evening.

You can bypass around the connector with butt splices for troubleshooting and go back later with a more professional repair later . Maybe just the effected wire ( s )

You will have 2 wires left over that don't hook up to their other half side as these are wires for the V12 engine .

In reality you don't have to have the special tools of insertion and removal along with the pin to wire crimping tool . If you need the ring out test chart after replacement I made one when I butt splice all of them before finding the connector purchasing source . Someone else made a pinout chart earlier .

 

So the only way to fix this is to fit a completely new connector? No way to clean the original connectors?

 

I'll look at the Papa Indy 61 connector to see about removing the pins as I still have that one in original deteriorated condition later today . Bypass the suspected wire ( S ) around the connector ? I'll look into finding just the pins and sockets to use the original plastic connector housing after it's cleaned that way you are 100 % and don't have compromised pins and sockets . I found a good catalog for all the connectors on the X300 and it shows the pin and socket numbers . It's in my laptop somewhere .
