Default A couple questions

Hi new poster here, needed some advice on my new purchase a 1995 4.0 XJ6 sport.

Used to own a 85' XJS 5.3 HE and loved every minute of it.

This is a euro car,

The car has come with no key fob so im not sure which one I can buy,

I assume its the 2 button keyfob but I would like to have the slightly newer flip key fob with 4 buttons (the blades look compatible). or am I just looking for the 433mhz transmitter and anything that outputs that?

also, Just wondering if this is normal, the car has been sat started perfectly but the idle is sitting above 1k rpm maybe 1250 is this normal when the engine is cold or should it be at 700-800 even when cold?

any help is appreciated as the manual says nothing about it.

You'll need a 2 button X300 fob.

My 95 XJ Sport (Brit import) uses 315mhz fobs. I think yours probably will too. Someone here will know how to identify which freq. you need from the car (VIN related?).

my '97 4.0 idles at around 1k for a few seconds after starting it cold, before settling at 800 rpm. It dips down to 650-7 with the car in gear and foot on brake.

high idle issues on these cars can be asimple as a vacuum leak, a dodgy idle speed contol stepper, a bad tps, OR can be a major PITA to find as witnessed by some threads that NEVER get reported resolved. And the TPS, or ISSC ar e big $$ compared to other cars

And another thing to do a quick check on, is your AC switched to Auto and full heat, this will increase your idle speed with a cold engine.

Try setting to manual and relatively cold air to see if this makes a difference.

If it does, then it is probably normal behaviour.

The car has settled a bit after being run through haven't had a chance to service it will do it tomorrow or the next day.

It settles around 800/900 rpm so still a little high while hot.

I also managed to flood it very easily at a petrol station and it refused to start for a while, then it was cold today and took about 5 seconds extra cranking which doesn't sound a lot but actually is.

I think I may replace the TPS as good measure in the service and know the ford part number for it (£110 from jaguar and £25 from a ford dealer exactly the same part)

Injectors will be off for a service and I dont know if where I can get the seals anyone???

plugs oil/filters are all going and can I change the fuel filter with 3/4 of petrol in the tank?

I saw on one of the parts sites there are spark plug seals do I need these never used them for any other car or are they just the seals on top to stop water getting into the top?

anything can anyone think of as a service item please say apart from the belts/rad/hoses as they are all pretty much new.

A vacuum line and size chart would be nice so I can just replace them all.

Any help is appreciated.

Forgot to say as well since I cannot edit my post -_-

I have been informed that the older XJ8/XJR four button remotes work with my car as they were optional to have remote boot opening or do I need to reprogram the car for this?

You mean coil gaskets? They are not critical, but they cost next to nothing (or if you have gasket paper they're plenty easy to make), so I don't see why you wouldn't use them.

ez64:
If you "know the ford part number for it " for the TPS (and availability), why not post it for the rest of us, OK?
