Crankshaft Position Sensor.
I was driving at speed along our M56 motorway when the whole car appeared to shake and the engine stumbled but quickly regained its normal aplomb! This happened three times in about 10 miles of motorway driving.I left the motorway and my troubles multiplied with severe engine stumble and it culminated in a final refusal to even try to run. My local garage, which had recently sericed and MOT tested the car was close, so with the help of passing motorists being held up by my stranded vehicle, we pushed the two plus tons of road block to the garage forecourt. Some three hours later and a three and a half mile walk home, I had a call from the mechanic to say that they had determined that there was no spark at the plugs and that a diagnostic check had indicated a dodgy crankshaft sensor. Did I want them to change it if they could find a replacement? Please do! Less than 24 hours after abandoning the vehicle, a 'phone call said "Your car is ready for collection" so I did the walk and collected the JAAG. It appears that during the test drive, in heavy rainfall, the test driver was not happy with the wiper blade so that was changed as well. Total coast £134. No complaints there then. I have now examined the offending part and see that the sensing spigot is well corroded, could this be the cause of the problem? Now that I have emery papered the sensor and it is now bright and shiney, do I have a spare part? How do I test it? Now I have been onto the Jaguar Land Rover Classic parts site. They want £148 for part number LME1640AA. I think I dodged a bullet! AlecG.
In your quest to be a Jaguar X300 problem solver ...............................
The crankshaft position sensor will read 1300 ohms as a basic meter reading
With the wiper blade horn swagging I would suspect the shop may have put battery acid on the CKPS pins to make them corrode
A dirty face ( different then connector ) of the CKPS can cause problems from reading others
The CKPS is a generic part and does not need to be a Jaguar part
The Jaguar is 4000 pounds of awsome

I very much doubt any interference by any outside party! I knew that soon after obtaining the car in 2012, there was a stalling issue that was resolved by changing the above mentioned sensor. I also obtained a second, just in case, but did not recall this during the driving/stalling/stopping issue, but it sat next to the battery all during this episode. So, it seems that I do have a spare, I just need to remember this whilst under pressure and learn how to recognise what the problem is how to fix it! I always carry many necessary tools in the spare wheel well! AlecG.
