Daimler Double Six vs XJR - which one?
I have the bug.
I am loving my Daimler 6 and almost have Ol'Blue fettled to original mechanical condition and ride quality, but he is the 'baby' with a 3.2
So now I am looking furtively at the big brothers, V12 and blown 6...
I have driven neither, but I drove a pristine XJS years ago when it was near-new and loved the smooth V12.
For about the same money (NZD$8-9,000) I could get a good example of either.
The hooligan in me would go XJR, but I like the Daimler ride on high-profile tyres, and the Q-ship nature of a 6 litre V12 appeals.
If I got an XJR I would be asking Andy for a reprogrammed ECU and I would work my way through some upgrades. Likewise with the V12, I have emailed AJ6 Engineering with an enquiry, and I'd be planning a bit of work there too.
My thoughts are this: the 6 litre V12 is the last of a line, whereas the XJR has been superceded by ever-more-powerful V8 XJRs and I am a real fan of the appearance of the X350 aluminium cars. So that would lean me towards the V12, knowing that later-model XJRs exist and become more affordable with time.
What do those who have driven both think?
cheers.

Tough decision :-)
When I bought my XJR I was looking for a good example of either model. It was pure chance that the "right" XJR came along first.
I've not driven the X300 V12 but a couple differences are obvious.
First the V12 cars have the very swank interior trim...not that the XJR comes off as a poverty model by any means, mind you. If the higher grade leather, picnic tables, etc. are important to you, the V12 is your choice.
OTOH, if cornering/handling is important to you, the XJRs taut springs and shocks, and rear anti-roll bar, would be very appealing. I can say that the XJR road holding and cornering is very impressive as 4200 pound sedans go.
As for acceleration/power the two are nearly identical. Road tests of the time have the XJR *just* nipping the V12 in acceleration through the quarter mile.
The XJR/6 was the *first* supercharged Jag and of course the X300s were the *last* of the straight-6 Jags...so there's a bit of significance there. IMHO, "straight six" and "Jaguar" just naturally go together, like hand in glove.
I've always felt that any red blooded Yank (or Brit, New Zealander, or German, or whoever..so long as he is red blooded
) should own a both a V12 and a supercharged car at least once in his life. For years I had an XJS V12. Now I have a supercharged XJR.
I'd say that both are impressive cars but for pure magnificence, the V12 takes top honor.
As time goes by it becomes increasingly harder to find good examples of either. Like me, you might find yourself disqualifying the shoody cars and taking whichever "right" car comes along first.
Cheers

Not ringing any bells with me.
Aston Martin, perhaps?

Get both them then you will have the trifecta
The X300 6.0 V12 is a rare beast bound to be a collectors item in years to come as will the S/C I6 XJR if they are not already
that's why I am keeping my XJR forever

I think I'd go with the XJR. Just seems a better combination with the Six - something different rather than something similar but better!
I'll have an XJR at some point - just hope there are still some around when I get round to it! An X308 R would suffice though, at a push.
