There is no problem in running on E10 with my bracket fitted.
Whether E10 provides lower performance than 98RON fuel depends on the octane of the E10 blend. Pure ethanol is 110RON. The use of ethanol in gasoline will change the saturated vapour pressure curve of the fuel. This will affect cold starting. I once worked on an E85 project. These cars were quite hard to start below 0degC.

Thank you for the feedback XJRengineer, I thought I may have been imagining things with the cold starts. I'm happy to know I didn't make that up

I would like to offer some feedback and seek some help from Andy regarding my bracket.

First things: My other Jaguar is a 1996 4.0 Normally Aspirated xj6
Since the install my bracket here is my story.
Positives: the car picks up very, very smoothly; gear shifts are nearly imperceptible; and there's more power and definitely much better fuel economy!

Troubling issue: After I installed the bracket on Saturday morning, I had a longish drive out that was absolutely joyous. However, yesterday (Sunday) the car started cutting out whenever in Drive and at nearly zero speed. This happens only in this scenario. When I slow down to nearly stopping, the car drops revs and cuts out. It has happened four times since morning.

I hate to miss all the pluses with the car but should I put back the old one in the meantime. Somehow, the car cuts out at very slow in drive only or reverse not neutral or park.

An important note: I have new NGK plugs in for the last about 5 or 6 days. They seemed to work well before the install of the bracket. Is the advance timing messing with them?

Otherwise, I don't regret installing this bracket and would do so again in a heart beat....

As per my PM, I'm very sorry to read that you have experienced some problems since fitting my bracket. Whilst I think NGK spark plugs are very good, for some reason they do seem to cause idle quality issues when used in Jaguar AJ16 engines. I suspect that there may be some compatibility issue with the ignition coils. I would recommend that you revert to the original equipment Champion spark plugs. I also suggested in my PM that you checked that the new bracket is correctly mounted on the front cover, because the tight fit of the ring dowels, can make if difficult to fit the bracket. If the bracket is not flush with the mounting face of the front cover, then the tip of the crank sensor will not be correctly aligned to the trigger wheel. It is difficult to see from the photographs that you sent whether the bracket is flush, though if I had to guess I would say it looks OK. I also suggested that you check that the plug on the sensor is securely connected to the plug on the harness. The crank sensor is a component that is well known for failing on these cars, if it is an original part. It is possible that disturbing the sensor during the installation process, may have initiated the onset of such a failure. Please let me know how you get on with my suggestions. I'm very keep to help resolve your current difficulties.

Thanks Andy!
1. Dowels
I had inadvertently left one of them out!
2. I removed the NGK plugs
0ne stall only since compared to 4 plus before...
3. Other considerations
I have ordered RC12YCC champions and a new CKPS

I believe the worst is over. Best upgrade!

We have just taken delivery of the latest batch of revised AJ16 crank sensor brackets. This has taken the total production to 640.

Dear All,
The company that I use to machine my revised crank sensors is closing down. I don't know when, or indeed if, I will find someone else to make these parts. If any of you have been thinking of ordering one of these parts, then don't put it off, because the current batch may be the last.

I have identified an alternative machine shop to manufacture my revised crankshaft brackets, so the continued supply of these parts is now confirmed.

I still have a few of the last batch of parts left, so I won't try out my new supplier until these have gone.

I bought one of the wrongly-machined/tight brackets from you a while ago which works great - hence my reluctance to take it out.
But are you still exchanging the tight ones for a correct one or have I missed the boat ?
Thanks

I'm very sorry that you found that the crank sensor was a tight fit in the bracket that we supplied. We received a very small number of reports of this issue with a previous batch of brackets that were made. I have very slightly changed the design of the bracket to increase the size of the hole We have also introduced a 100% quality check of fitting a sensor to each bracket when it finishes manufacture. We have had no more reported incidences of tight sensors in brackets since making these changes. If you have a tight bracket, then you are very welcome to return it for a replacement part of the revised design. Once again, can I offer my apologies for any inconvenience caused by providing a part that does not meet the quality standards that you should be entitled to expect.

It looks like either one of Andy’s brackets or a complete copy of one, painted black, but otherwise identical as far as I can see.

Richard,
Thank you for drawing this to my attention. I do not provide brackets in this finish. The seller claims that these brackets are new. In which case, they are copies of my design, and I'm not very happy about it, to say the least. I very much hope that everyone will continue to source their revised brackets from me , rather than someone who appears to have copied my design and then is selling them for a higher price.
