Smile Door remote control XJ6 1995

Hi,

I tend to belive that my XJ6 VDP is jinxed with elevtrical problems (the previous owner had jumped amother car directly from the battery of mine without disconnecting any cables !)

But to day my problem is different.

I received yesterday the door/lock remmote cntrom fromů the previous owner. He told me "needs" new batteries"
So went to the sorer and got 2 x Energizer 2016 and installed them

Bingo. It worked

I tried it severla times until I parked the car for the night;

This morning it would not work !

But it was the remote as there was no blinking lights on it !

And I do not belive that the batteries were bad.

I have orderde another set of 2016

Has anyone encountered this problem of remote batteries going bad overnight?; If yes, did you find a cure

Thanks again

Claude

I have had over 20 Jags, if not 25, in the past 40 years and drove extensively (and fast) the only problem I ever encountered was a bad 'righ rear) wheel bearing on an XJ6 SII. I even had an early XJ12 4 doors with carbs cut in half and modified into a 2 door heavy duty tow truck ! (please do not kill me for this)

The 'cure' is to buy some new batteries!
Seriously, you are assuming it's the batteries but you won't know until you fit new ones.
Surprised you had to order new 2016s. They are widely available and surely can be bought without ordering?

The batteries I bought were totally new "Energizer".
It seems that here is a bd ontact within the remote, most probably due to age (17 years old) and finger sweat from previous owner

Why did I "order" new batteries? Very simple at the local store 2 x 2016 cost $4.99 plus sales tax

On eBay I got 6 new ones for $1.99 with free shipping

I think that if a re sell 2 x 2 2016 at half price I will have made $5.00 profit and I still will have 2 new batteries in stock :-)))

No offence, Jagclaude but I'd check the "Use by" date on those cheap batteries.

Think the 'order' confusion results from our different usage of the English language. I'm British where to 'order' something suggests it's not in stock but is ordered for you. I presume by 'ordered' you meant 'bought'?
