Default The dreaded no start has occured

Well my exhaust is fixed and my brother fixed up my rear fender from the hit and run of last fall. Up until this morning it has been running fine. This morning I went out and put the key in and it whirled but no start or even attempt. I have fuel at the fuel rail although I have no idea if the injectors are working. I seem to have spark as well. I am hoping this is the simple CPS but not sure if it runs the spark or the injectors. As I said it seem to run fine but this morning whirl all day but not even a little kick. Any suggestions would be great.

Since you appear to have fuel, pump is maybe OK.

I would start with simply unplugging the cam angle sensor (the whizzy thing where a distributor once lived) and replugging it.

Then do the same to the crank angle sensor, that one is tricky, and the vertical position of the plug allows all sorts of moisture cruddy stuff to fall inside and mess with the contact integrity. I sealed mine with RTV after a good solvent clean out. That was a no start issue waaaaay back after driving thru a flooded road.

Also check the RED wire of the CAS, and ensure you have 12v in it, ign ON. That 12v comes from the Blue relay in the RH fuse block under the bonnet.

Take a look at the tacho, and ensure you have a 200 +/- reading while cranking. NO reading = CAS issue.

FORGOT, I do that, reset the inertia switch, it is well written here that it does reek havoc for no apparent reason, and a simple reset has the beast running.

if that fails to fire the beast, report back, and we will grow the list.

Ok everything checks out so far.The only issue is that I only have 2.75 volts at the red wire. This is a 95 XJ6 if that helps, should've said so to start. The relay is working, I took the cover off and checked. Everything else is tight and dry and the inertia switch is set. Have a cps on order but I'm getting a read on the tach so I dont think it's this. As I mentioned I am getting some spark. Is there a test to see if injectors are working? Ready for next round of tests anyway.

i had the same problem. im assuming you have verified all the fuses and ignition and ecm relays. on mine it was a corroded connection on the black plug of the ECM. water driped and falls right on that connection making it corrode. mine showed only .60 volts on the Cam sensor. so you could give that a look. the ecm is located on the passenger side below the glove box infront of the front door. simply remove the plastic that is held in place by a single push clip and get down there and unplug both ECM connection. i could easily see green/bluish stuff on the plugs and then had to remove the ECM for fixing and cleaning.

Well every connection looks good, got fuel to the fuel rail, have spark (some spark anyway). Changes out the CPS just to be safe. No go yet. Turns over great just acts like its out of gas. Gonna try to get codes read tomorrow.

Does it feel like you have no compression in any cyls ?

Quicky test.

Grab some starter spray (Ether), give it a squirt, if it runs, then injector pulse is highly suspect, and that is the cam angle sensor (whizzy thing where a distributor once lived).

That is not a major failure item, but I reckon I have heard of 2 since being on this forum??.
