Driver seat cables keep coming out of fitting....
Hi, Everyone! I have a 1996 XJ6 and the driver seat cable that operate the bottom part of the seat keeps coming out of its socket. I will connect it back and then a day or 2 later it will come back out... Is there any permanent fix for this? glueing it on or maybe something to hold it into the socket??
thanks.....
thanks.....
If the switches are removed from the seat base either the clips on the switchpack or the plastic 'socket' in the seat base can be broken. Really not much you can do about it. Look carefully to see which part is broken. If it's the switches you might be able to get a new one, if the socket is broken I'm sire you need to remove the seat base, and search for another with intact socket. The socket is glued onto the seat base. If both parts are broken.....you can guess the rest.
Here's a photo of what the two should look like although you'll probably be able to see this on your own car. So, 4 clips on socket and 4 rectangular slots on the socket for the clips to secure to.

hi thanks for the responses, but I was talking about the cables under the seat that fall out out the socket? its the black cables under the seat that are falling out. Is this referring to the same thing I am talking about??
Push them right into the sockets until they click. The have a tab that prevents them from being pulled out, but, it must be engaged into a recess on the socket. You really need the seat unbolted to see this and unless the seat base is at it's highest position, I doubt it would be easy to push the plugs home without removing the four seat rail bolts and tilting the whole seat back.
Coincidentally I had my seats out yesterday to replace the heater elements.
I noticed one of the drives cables had fallen out. Even with the seat on the workbench it was a hard to see what I was doing but with a little fiddling I was able to get the cable at just the right angle and position to push it home with a tiny click.
Getting back to the adjuster switch.....I was grateful for the above pics so I could see what I was dealing with. For the life of me, though, I couldn't remove it. I just couldn't find a tool or method to release the tabs.
In the end it wasn't necessary as I was able to peel back the leather enough to install the new pads even with the switch in place.
Cheers
