I have to get my 1997 XJR through a Emissions test next week and I have found a large hole in one of the rear mufflers. As I am thinking of selling the car I have started looking for a replacement muffler. For the OEM they are way too much so the shop that will be doing the Emissions test have indicated that a MUFF GP glass filled universal mufflers would work fine. As I know nothing about them can anyone give me input on these type of mufflers and any others that might be fine on this car,,

Just remove the muffler and then go to any auto parts store and find one that matches up to yours (the inlet and outlet should be the same diameter, if its body is less bulky it will give you more working room when installing.You might have to get some universal hangers to keep everything where it belongs.

 

the rear mufflers do very little on this car, even if you simply remove them you'd hardly notice

 

Yes I agree that the rear mufflers are not doing much but I my be selling the car and would have to have some sort of muffler at the rear to get it through. I bought one the othe day, it just happened to be off a ford car but a match for what was on the car. I got it from NAPA (Canada) for $44.00.
