Default Fender Removal

Hi Everyone

For those who need to do some dent work on the front fender/quarter panels, removal may be the way to go. The good news is that the panels are "Bolt On" not "Weld On". It is held in place with 10mm screws located as follows:
4 under the hood along the top, just lift the hood/bonnet and you will see them.
2 are located in the front just under the side of the bumper, you will have to remove the bumper to get access. Just follow the "bumper Removal Process" posted here by "Sogood".
3 are located at the rear of the panel behind the wheel arch, (2 of which are located close to back mid way up) ( see pics) and the 3rd screw is just inside the wheel arch at the bottom.
Do remember to turn your wheel out and pull back the wheel arch cover to gain access... you will have to use a 10mm ring wrench to get the back 2 screws out. Just reach in with your arm and you can feel for them and unscrew. All the other screws can be loosened by using a 10mm socket wrench.

Once you have the screws removed you will need to loosen the 2 torx screws holding the vent hood so that you can use a sharp edged knife to remove the glue that hold the panel to the body at that point. When removing the panel you will need to unplug the marker light.

Replacing the panel is done by reversing the process. it is helpful if you use some grease on the screws to make tightening easier.

I hope this will be of help to someone.

It ain't easy....but it's still possible to R&R the front fender whilst leaving the bumper unmolested. You need a small extendable magnet, 10mm box end ratchet wrench, and a good bit of patience. I found out by happenstance - the damage to the fender I was removing made access to the front fixings inviting, if not easy. When it came time to install the replacement, I found that without the damage, my access had evaporated. Tricky to get a start on one of the bolts, but not bad to finish it with the ratchet-wrench.

Hi Aholbro1

Thanks for that add. I could not gain access without removing the bumper using the process from "Sogood". Once you manage to loosen the 2 retaining bolts using a "3/4in" socket, it slides out easily to give you access.... Be careful because it pretty heavy.

When it comes to removing the back 2 retaining 10mm screws at the back of the fender panel be sure you are wearing a long sleeved shirt as there are some very sharp edges back there.

I hope that helps

Hi Sogood
Thanks for that. Since I can't seem to "Straighten out myself" I figured I my at least straighten out the front fenders..... Besides it keeps me out of the bars..LOL,,,, See the "devil does make work for idle hands".

I removed the RHS panel yesterday and worked on the 2 nasty dents, see pics here. It took a little effort but managed to get them out and and sanded down to bare metal ready for prep, fill and prime.
