Default Found my Dream 97 XJ6

I used to own a 97 XJ6L and lost it in a divorce.

Since I've purchased a 04 XJ8. but missed my XJ6.

Looked around for several months and found a cream puff.

I am so excited. Interior and exterior are as close to perfect as I could find.

Car has 91K original miles. I am going to bring it in for a service.

What do you guys recommend for type of oil and what about a trans service?

Thanks for in advance for your advice.

Yes on the trans service.

I use 10/30 oil, any name brand. Opinions vary.

Nice Car! Looks like you have the chromed Dimple wheels. I have the alloy. Very Nice!

Opinions do vary on the oil type. I've been told by an indie Jag mechanic that 20/50 is what should be used for the X300. However, my co-worker has both a 88 XJ6 and a 97 XJ6 and uses 10/30 or 10/40. Seems to me that you really can't go wrong with the oil weight recommendations on this site since I've read of no horror stories with a particular selection.

Very nice car, these cars are nicer than later models

We used 10W40 Castrol when I used to own an X300 . Chrome wheels look shiny too

I use Mobil 1 15W50 in both of mine -'95 XJS and '96 VDP. So I guess there you have it - no brand or weight is a standout.

Sharp looking 97, are the wheels chromed or were they stripped of clearcoat and polished?

VERY nice.

I had that altermatum in '82, the MK10 or her, ummmmm, still got the MK10, nuff said.

I agree with Doug, EXCEPT, I change ALL fluids on any Jag I get s/hand, no matter what the books/whatever state. That way I know what is in where, and it is FRESH.

I run synthetic in all of mine in the engine/trans/diff/power steer. Dot4 in the brakes, and Longlife Green in the radiator.

No surprises yet.
