Default Check Engine Light

OK - this one has been going on for over a year - when cold a little rough idle, engine knock and hesitation. As it runs - get some dieing at stops, hesitation on acceleration - on a long run - couple of hours on an interstate it gets real weird - all the idiot lights and gauges flash on and off usually starts with the Transmission and airbag light then a few minutes later all lights and gauges start flashingon/off- runs rough hesitates, stalls, etc. Most of the time no codes. Next morning may get nothing or sometimes a check engine light - runs fine - for awhile

Oddly usually runs a little better in manual mode once the trouble starts. Maybe a transmission problem masquerading as an engine issue?

When codes do pop up it's a range at different times these have shown up P1316, P0301, P13113, P305 & P1314

Too date - five shop visits

New MAF
New coils - all
New plugs and wires
New (used) knock sensor
New catalytic converter
Dry gas 4 times

130K and has been well maintained - my wife's baby and she has had it since new.

I only run premium and try to buy at 'name" stations.

Ignoring the codes I'm going to replace the fuel filter this weekend.

Any ideas would be appreciated - two Jag specialist shops have both struggled with it - one in VA and one in TX - they are as frustrated as I am. Love the car but told my wife to start thinking buying a new one.

My research has found:
P1316 Injector Cir / IDM codes detected
P0301 Cylinder 1 One Misfire Detected
P1313 Misfire Rate Catalyst Damage Fault - Bank 1

P0305 Cylinder 5 One Misfire Detected
P1314Misfire Rate Catalyst Damage Fault - Bank 2

I would chech fuel injectors and spark plugs and spark plug gaps

If I was you I'd clear off all the codes then take the car for a drive untill the check engine light comes back on and then read that code. Sometime one bad code can course others because the engine is not running right..

It's just something to take a look at first..

Good Luck

For those kind of symptoms I'd be looking for an HT electrical leakage. Although you have replaced the coils I would still be looking in that area. Were they brand new coils?

You haven't said what car/engine/year this is - that would help.

Assuming it is an X300 with AJ16 engine I'm confused by you replacing the plug wires?

I inadvertantly destroyed the wiring harness - hit a curb and broke the windshiled washer reservoir then drove over the dangling wiring harness. Replacing the harness seems to have corrected all the rough running , gauages acting weird, stalling, hesitation etc.

There was a TSB for the PI harness fault.

Maybe it was the harness??
