gas cap

gas cap
Hey fellas, just trying to research further. This is on the same topic. When my check engine light came on, i had the codes read and it was the 0441 code. I think it has to do with the way the car releases the gas fumes. I used the obdII to turn off the light and it stayed off for about 1200 miles. I read in a thread that these cars sometimes have issues with the gas cap. people on here say to make sure your gas cap is on tight, that could make the light come on. but my gas cap only turns so far then stops. it isn't the kind that clicks. I also notice when the check engine light comes on i smell a very slight smell of gas in the trunk. I want to try the cheapest solution first! Could the gas cap need replacing? Will i need the oem replacement or is there an upgrade at autozone.(one that clicks) Do you suppose to get that hissing sound when you first open the gas cap? mine does not. I think i will replace the gas cap first? sorry so long, but your help is greatly apreciated

Your cap is the same as mine, goes half a turn and thats all. Mine does NOT have a whoosh, or hiss on opening, so I deem that to be "normal" also.
I would replace the cap, Genuine only in my opinion, due to the issues I believe they had with them, as with the coolant cap??. I am not aware of aftermarket caps for either position, but that is "down here".

Have you by chance overfilled the gas tank once or twice? Do you put more in after the gas handle clicks off? This will throw a code 0441. Gas gets into the charcoal canister. It also relates to the purge valve. Check all your lines from the tank to each destination. Possible vacuum leak.

Code 0441 = Evap purge control. The evap carbon canister is locatedon the left side of vehicle in front of the rear axel The purge valve is located belowthe left hand headlight module. the valve limits the escape of fuel vapour from the tank .
If the tank is pussurising the suggestion is that the pressure control valve is inoperative. Normal pressure is 1 to 1.3psi if cap is releasing pressure the valve is most likly a problem or lines / cannister blockage pressure valve is located on purge canninester it has 2 hoses on the lower side and 1 on upper side
