Default Aftermarket Marelli Caps Fixed Issue

It appears that the aftermarket caps (at least this one on ebay) has fixed the issue with the cap? You can see a metal sleeve in the photo around the bushing. Its a WELLS LU948 Dist Cap

Also, cutting the distrubutor shaft down along with using the proper aftermarket caps, like this one should erradicate the issue?

I'm not saying the I will not be checking things but is it not much of issue anymore compared to what it was? Its stressful to drive around constantly thinking the cat is going to go up in flames... Maybe its not such a problem anymore?

Has anyone reported a fire recently?

My understanding is that the aftermarket caps have never caused an actual problem or failure. It's just that they don't last as long.

BTW, it's also my understanding...not 100% confirmed... that the only outfit presently making the V12 Marelli cap is Intermotor. No matter what the box says, it's an Intermotor cap inside.

Some sellers.....the bahstards....still show a true Marelli cap in their on-line listings/catalogs. Deceptive!

IMHO greatly reducing the chance a Marelli meltdown is easy:

-trim the rotor and/or use the dab-of-silicone trick
-properly gapped plugs in good condition
-plug wires in good condition
-annual visual inspection of cap and rotor; replace when needed

That still leaves the possibility of a coil or module failure....but those are not as common as problems related to the above items.

Cheers

The caps were causing fires, but the manufacturer has fixed them. If you look at the brush you will see a metal tube around it. The ones with out that caused fires. Kirby has a fix which was to buy a metal tube at a hobby shop and stick it in there making contact at the end.

So no more worries at all about the caps it seems. Just the rotor which needs silicon and the distributor shaft cut down to get a bit farther away from the arc.

Of course replace the plugs and wires and none of this is an issue.

I feel good about not having to worry about the fire as long as I do what is mentioned above. I bought this car from a guy who seemed to panic sell it when he learned about the Marelli fire.
