Default GearBox jam?

My car will be idle and everything is locked ready to go but when I try to get out of the park gear to go into Drive or Reverse the gearbox jams up..sometimes i have to turn the car off and hopefully it doesn't jam up again..I believe its a electronic thing..anyone have this problem?

I am going to guess as to your model being X300??. Perhaps edit that detail into your sig, it will make things easy for us mere mortals haha.

There is an electronic solenoid on the gearlever that locks it in "P" for safety reasons. The application of the brake pedal, which activates the stop light circuit, also activates the electrics to that solenoid, thus "unlocking" it, and allowing you to get it out of "P" and go for your drive, simple, mmm.

These solenoids apparently "jam", or fail electrically. Also the brake light circuit "may not" be doing what it should, so not activating this solenoid.

Remove the ski slope, simple job, and you will see the culprit at the front left of the gearlever, and its operation will be quite clear.

Prior to ripping it all apart, there is a small "plastic" button just to the left of the "P" on the gearlever surround, unscrew it, and push a blunt pen, Jaguar key (the round X300 style), into the hole, and unlock the gearlever manually, it may only be "gummed up", you might be that lucky.

Mine died, so I simple removed the solenoid, not hard, so the lever can be moved out of "P" whenever I like. NO small kids or similar ever in/near this car, so the "safety" issue is NOT to me.

Thanks! I'm going to go check it out. It's been quite annoying but starting to act a little better then before.
