Default Harmonic Balancer rebuild

Is replacing the harmonic balancer a job that I should feel comfortable letting an average shop handle? I've looked into it and it doesn't seem too complicated but you never know. I've recently relocated and cant find a jag mechanic nearby

It is not hard to do. The bolt is 1 5/16" though, so hopefully they have a big enough socket. I recommend removing the fan shroud and placing some cardboard on the back side of the radiator. The balancer does not go into the oil seal as that is done by the "distance piece" behind it. The balancer is keyed on so it lines up one way. The torque is 183-223 Newton Meters. thats not foot pounds so do the conversion if you need to. Basically it is really flippin' tight so the pulley has to be held in place to loosen the nut. Jaguar has a big long tool that bolts into the tiny holes in the center hub of the balancer. Do not tighten random bolts into those holes or you will break the timing cover and cause a huge oil leak (i saw someone have this happen). Otherwise, from my experience, the balancer kinda slides off with a little encouragement. Replace and reinstall all the stuff.
