hello, im new here.. have a problem on my dads car, xj executive 3.2.. 94+
hello, dads car at times wont start.. it wont turn over at all. then, for no reason the fault disappears and the car fires up and runs no problem.. its like a faulty relay, a dirty contact.. a loose wire..
the starter motor seems fine, no strange noise or sticking, it seems pre starter motor..the battery is fine and the terminals clean.. any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks..

Welcome aboard.
Quickly look at the P symbol on the gear lever quadrant. Ensure it is lit up Red when in P, and the Ignition is turned ON. If it aint Red, it aint going to crank.
The linear switch on the side of the J Gate mechanism is a well known issue with that, and is semi easily cleaned and adjusted.
After that, the list will grow.

Completely agree with Grants diagnosis.
Mine does it once every 30 or 40 starts. A quick wiggle of the gear selector and all is well. Worth a try, as it confirms the diagnosis and solves the immediate problem.
