In 5 years I’ve put about 100-110,000km on the pair of my X300s (3.2 and XJR, split fairly evenly about 50,000km each.
my current week-day commute is a 60km triangle circuit with some quiet country roads.good fun in the XJR
I have 3 x300's and I drive them daily. I have 196K 182K and 60K on them. We have 6 drivers so they get a work out. Most dependable cars I've ever owned.

I`m dailying my XJ6 3.2, but it doesn`t get very high mileage, since it`s a second car in the family. Also, my car is being driven only in the warm months of the year, since I don`t want the salty roads to damage the car.
I'm taking delivery of a '96 X300 4.0 n/a with just under 115,000k that spent most of it's nights sleeping in a garage in Tennessee.
I'm in Providence, RI, so missing out on 22 yrs of being pot-holed and salted to bits is a very enticing "option". Even better than a supercharger.
I drive almost 100 miles round trip, six days a week, to work and momvisiting on Saturday.
Most of my commute is either 15 - 20 mph/ sitting in traffic, alternating with normal (for me, that's cruise-control at 60mph) highway speeds.
The summer heat combined with sitting in traffic surrounded by hot asphalt and hot cars might be more of an overheating concern than cruising at 60 mph while I watch everyone else race at 75 - 85 mph straight into the rear-end of the next batch of stopped traffic.
I would love to use a comfy Jaguar for a daily driver.
I would also hate to drive it to death, but it was designed to be driven and that is exactly what I intend to do with it.
If I blow it up or more likely, some chucklehead "child" plows into me while fooling around with their telephone while learning to drive (which is what it appears everyone well under the age of fifty is doing out there these days, it only cost $2,000.00 so I can just get another one if there are any decent ones left.
I used my ‘92 XJ40 as a daily driver for <>13 years and now split my driving between my ‘75 S11, and ‘99 XJR and by next year I should have my ‘65 3.4 ‘S’ on the road.
The XJR is currently used for classic trials (time trial on a race track) and also being used as one of the official cars in our upcoming NZ South Island Targa; https://targa.nz/
I just bought a '96 X300 and changed the oil, plugs and pumped out and replaced a few gallons of ATF.
It passed inspection; safety and emissions on first go, so I drove her the 100 mile round trip, two days in a row to my
office in Hingham, Mass. from Providence, RI.
No problems.
Once I get the high-idle fixed I might get better mileage.
220 miles on 3/5ths of a tank of 93 octane unleaded.
I don't even know what the tank holds.
I stopped pumping once I hit $50.00
Very comfy seat.
Alot of momentum.
I take my foot of the gas a 70mph and a mile later I'm still doing 65mph....
This things probably more reliable than my '07 Volvo S40 with the lifetime, no dipstick piece of **** transmission.
Simply Splendid! The Leaper
Welcome aboard, Jimi!
Fuel tank capacity is 21.3 US fal
You'll likely see about 19 - 20 mpg if a good portion of that 50 miles between home and office is highway.
Welcome, Jimi. You are now certifiably nuts. Get a second X300, and you’re really addicted..
things to consider.. new water hoses all round if they’ve never been done, especially if you have hot summers.
‘The plastic pipe on my radiator blew apart when it was 20 years old. I had a custom aluminium radiator made, as it cost the same as a new plastic one from UK.
idle issues can be a number of things - throttle position sensor, dirty throttle body, cable adjustment.. my XJR benefitted greatly from a new fuel pressure regulator recently - fixed hunting idle speed.
Been doing my 100 mile round trip commute in this ‘96 4.0 X300 I got last week.
Probably won’t expose it to the elements once winter kicks in.
So far, so good...
My 1997 XJ6 BRG has less than 55K miles. Its a garage queen. I just bought it less than 6 months ago. It was truly a barn find that located in the middle of nowhere. My previous 1997 XJ6 had 96k miles. I had it for eleven years before I sold it three years ago. It was also pristine condition as well. I see on the road sometime and missed it. The second owner really taken care of it. I am fortunate to drive company vehicle even on weekends.
1995 xj6,193,xxx miles. Every day use. Bought 5 years ago and been a nearly perfect car. 135,xxx miles when I bought it. Routine maintenance items, tires, brakes plugs and a battery. Wanted and done wheel bearings. Required work was fuel pump, a.c. condenser(hit too many curbs) and now need to do harmonic balancer. I LOVE ME CAT!
Since I've gotten my XJ6 on the road and legal, it's been a trial-by-fire initiation back into the daily driver world. I've been driving it to work for two weeks now and have added 900 miles to the odometer. Now on fuel filter #2 and still adding Berrymans B12 at every fill up. It will continue to be on daily use unless sidelined by a major repair. So far I love this car and it goes down the road like a dream!
Jaguar Bells all the way......from Providence, RI to Hingham, Mass.
100 mile r/t , 6 days per week.
Even got a nice "wintery mix" on the way in this morning.
Just got my Evolution 4 car cover because Jaggy is from Tennessee and has never been in snow/salt/potholes,etc..
He'll hibernate as soon as the salt and sand trucks spring into action.
I use my 1995 BRG X300 XJR 240,000 K on the clock as a daily driver, although at the moment the front upper shock absorber bushes are perished, right side has turned to powder. Very annoying as they are upgraded GAZ adjustables. I have not been able to locate new bushes over the holiday period and none on line here in AU. I need to replace the tires very soon. Any suggestions? I have upgraded the drop links and CPS bracket from XJRrngineer, both are great.
