The first year I paid $4300 to get up to date maintenance wise on mine. The second year I pad $1800. I don't do the work. I know that makes it more expensive.

I don't know off-hand what it costs me annually to maintain the car, but I can grossly estimate my costs over my ownership of the car which is coming up on 4 years and 50k miles.

I do all my own work, so the costs below were only for parts, and again just estimates as I'm going from memory:

Required
- rear shocks & related bushings - $500
- clean TB and various preventive parts maintenance - $400
- battery - $200
- alternator - $200
- belts - $100
- power steering low pressure supply hose - $50
- 3rd/high-mount brake light - $50
- chassis plastic undertray - $100
- brake service - $200

Required TBD:
- brake booster/servo - $700
- may need a pair of fuel pumps soon - $200
- door handle exerior gaskets - $100
- front shocks & related bushings - $500

Optional
- digital clock - $100
- radio - $200
- oil catch can - $100
- X308 headlight conversion - $300

Consumables
- oil change 3 times a year - $200
- tires - $800
- air filter twice a year - $30
- spark plugs once a year - $15

So after four years, that works out to be around $1300/year. It is certainly more than our Honda, but even the Honda is starting to cost us well over $500 a year now that its 13 years old and things are starting to wear out.

But other than my TB gumming up a year ago, and my current problem which is likely fuel pump related, I've had very few significant failures or high cost repairs especially considering Jag's old reputation and the age of the car. Some of the costs above were somewhat optional, where other high cost items like tires aren't unique to the Jag. It has actually been very reliable. It's only been off the road twice for any significant amount of time only because I am figuring it out myself in my spare time, again for the TB cleaning and this fuel issue.

P.S.

The following statistic is from AAA, which isn't a perfect analogy, but perhaps provides some perspective:

http://newsroom.aaa.com/tag/cost-to-own-a-vehicle/

To calculate annual maintenance and repair costs, AAA examined factory-recommended maintenance, replacement tires, extended warranty costs and services associated with typical wear-and-tear. New vehicles, on average, will cost a driver $1,186 per year to maintain and repair.
