Might seem like a stupid question, but where is the key stuck? In the release hole in the console? If not, how did you get the lever out of Park?

If in the steering column, I think you'll have to reconcile the gear lever with the steering lock.

Can you turn the key at all? Or is it just locked in the ignition?

When you destroyed your shifter assembly, you fixed it so the cable that releases the ignition key can't do its job; so the key won't come out.

David, like XJRGuy said, you have destroyed your shift lever mechanism and needless to say, that action is probably going to be fairly spendy to get things back like they should be. I'm sure XJRguy can give you a better idea of what it is going to cost. So, standby to see what the repair bill is going to be.

A really, really good reason why people ought to read their owners manuals immediately after purchase. Several times, over several days.
