infamous rear view mirror
This forum has been helpful with my current problem, however, I need a little more help. The rear view mirror in my '95 XJ6 recently fell from the windshield, left dangling by the wire. I am considering replacing the mirror with a model that also has the compass feature, but need to know what the original 3 wire leads are for. The replacements seem to have 2 wire leads.
Fortunately, although the liquid for the auto-dim feature has drained into the bottom of the housing, it did not leak out. Unfortunately, Sybesma no longer has the components to repair the "slider" model of the mirror.

There's a very cool combo mirror that may be fittable to your car. See the thread:

Goes way beyond a mere compass.

Thanx Toller for the link. I'll check them out.
Oubadah, yes, that's the one with the liquid. From my reading on this forum, I learned that the original manufacturer was purchased by another company, who would refer you to Sybesma (orders@sybesmas.com) for repairs, which would have replaced the liquid with a gel. Sybesma responded promptly, however, they no longer have access to the components for the "slider" model, which you have pictured. Apparenly, all manufacturers have stopped using the liquid in favor of the gel, but I have not been able to pin down exactly when the change took place.
In my case, I have 2 good fortunes. 1. The liquid didn't leak. 2. The "button" came off the windshield with no damage, so, I can replace the mirror with virtually any model. That leads me back to what the 3 wires are. Replacements have anywhere from 2 to 10 wires, and I don't want to get it wrong.
