My driver's seat slides back and forth perfectly well but, rather alarmingly, can be pushed forward and up off the floor at the back, pivoting at the front of the seat tracks.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is it a question of broken brackets?

Hi Andy XJR,
Your symptoms sound very similar to mine. If so, the metal frame has broken where the back joins the base. I bought a replacement seat (in a different trim colour) from a breakers yard and transferred all the trim over from my failed seat. Easier than trying to weld the broken metal frame. Getting the switch out of the frame is the only tricky part, as it is difficult to unclip the plastic tangs that hold it in place.

 

Is the broken bit in the attached diagram?

 

No. My seat frame failed at the point where the back and base are riveted together to form item 1 in the diagram below.

 

Another failure is the captive nut (for item 12 in the diagram) pulled out of the floor. See the split arrowed in red:



I had to hammer it flat, spot weld and fit a new captive nut.
