Default Instrument backlighting

Hello everyone,
just joined, having a real problem with my 1997 xj6.i have lost the backlighting to my speedo, taco, fuel, oil, temp, and amps guage. And all the tiny white lights that illuminate the graphics on the centre console buttons. Everythink but the lights work fine. I am out of ideas. Can anyone please help.
Have checked fuses dimmer switch ect ect.

Did you check the inst panel dimmer switch? If that is OK, then you will have to track down a wiring issue.

I had checked the dimmer function and it was working on the remaining lights. Mileometer, Clock, Radio and Temp control window. So had ruled it out. However this afternoon out of shear desperation I pulled every fuse in the car out and found the F2 fuse in the left hand heelboard (Heated door mirrors, Instrument illumination dimmer) blown. Replaced, and now have backlighting on the right side of main cluster, Tacograph, oil and temp guage and about 50% of centre consul lights working.(random order). Hadent though about it but could the problem still be in that switch. Thanks very much for the advice. I havent a clue with electrics but will beat this yet.
