Interior light Flashing

I Just bought an exceptional 1997 XJ6L jag with 82K original miles.
When you open the driver's door all the interior lights flash off and on. Not all the time...but most of the time. If you open another door the flashing quits. What could be causing this? Here is a photo of my beautiful Jag... a one owner out of West Palm Beach.

Check the switch that turns on the lights when you open the doors.............Could be a bad switch or lose wire. When you open the other doors it creates another loop for the electric to run through or to ground.

The clicking is the relay for the circuit, behind the heelboard beneath the rear seat. The switch is a microswitch on the door latch, you'll have to remove the door panel for access. Some people have reported that contact cleaner sprayed in the switch is sufficient to cure the problem.
Heck yeah do what JagtechOhiosays. He is the one I purchased my Jag from andits an awesome Jag he really maintained it for the previous owner better than any dealership could have.

The Mustang is going great! I finished the paint yesterday. Now I just have to sand buff and put her all together. I am still wanting to get the XJS of yours down here
I promise I will not drive it much

The problem is likely a resistive door open switch in the drivers door latch, which causes the relay to cycle, you will needto either replace the latch unit or work with the switch and get it cleared, which I never had success with.
The only way I found to clean the switch is to remove the tiny rubber boot that seals the plunger and then soak the switch in contact cleaner. Its impossible to reinstall the little boot so I slathered on a glob of heavy grease to (hopefully) protect the switch from moisture. Has worked for a couple years now....knock on wood.
I have searched for hours and hours trying to find a replacement switch. They are very small. Obviously they're "out there somewhere" but I haven't been able to find one.

Chances are you might need to replace the door lock entirely, if cleaning it up doesn't fix it. $500 is what they charged me here in Virginia for parts and labor.
you can take off the micro door light switch within the floor lining, take out the step board and trimmings and access through the carpet and you will see the philips screw which will release the switch, then pull from inside to take it out. same with all the other doors.
