Default interior lights

I have a 1997 XJ6. it is a great car that i picked up used. However,it has some small items that need to be addressed. One of them is the rear interior lights. One side stays on all of the time while riding or the engine running. can anyone tell me where the switch is that controls those lights? I would like to get it fixed so the light will go out once the door is closed.

Thank you!

The ones on the D-pillar? I catch mine on at odd times when no one has messed with them. Just press the offending light and it should go off.

Hi JK have you tried pressing the light itself ,the crome part as that is the switch or the door button switch could be damaged located in the door frame pillar

i think it is the light that is related to the door. I might be stupid but i didn't see a switch on a door pillar or anywhere. seems the light is actually two different lights. One i can push and it comes on and another part that is connected to the door switch. The door switch one is the one that doesn't seem to cut off.

where is the switch?

OK, theres the two lights (as pictured here *without* the plastic lenses over them).

The lower one is the main courtesy light that comes on when you unlock the car/open the door/use the controls in the front ceiling console.

The upper one is the reading light and is activated/deactivated but pressing the plastic lens that covers it (the actual lense rocks).

I did notice something strange about those rear reading lights when I was messing around with them - something like they only work when the headlights are on... or maybe the car had to be running. I can't remember.

EDIT: I just checked; You have to have the ignition in accessory mode to turn on the rear reding lights. This is NOT the case with the front reading lights. Weird...

Anyway, you turn them on and off by pressing on them.

You won't find a typical, old style plunger switch on the door jamb/pillar. The switches are in the door latch mechanisms. You an remove the latch and then remove the switch for cleaning...which often brings them back to life. If not you'll need to find a switch (good luck) or replace the latch assembly. Jaguar doesn't sell the switch individually and I've yyet to find a vendor....although I just KNOW that somebody out there has 'em !

Cheers

@jkjag had the very same problem. easy fix by cleaning or replacing the the switch in the door latch mechanism. or it may have even came loose.
