Just Testing the Waters
I recently sold my 2001 XJR to satisfy my Alfa Romeo cravings. Ended up with 2 Berlinas. Will be keeping one, selling the other. As I figured earlier, I would end back in the Jaguar camp but this time I would like it to be in a 1996 or 1997 X300 R model. Although I would miss the extra horse power of the 2001 R, I do like the in-line 6 torque and reliability.
As I am in the process of selling one of the Berlinas, I thought to see what treasures does the forum hold for me.
Preferably, I'd like the 1997 model, being the last of the X300. R is a must as clear title, clean and unmolested car with service records, everything working. Paint preferred original, high quality repaint is fine.
Basically I want the car in the same condition that my X308 R was. I am in the Los Angeles area so passing smog is a must.
Thanks to all.

I'm sure the car you want is out there but far fewer XJR/6s were made than XJR/8s so be patient. Including 1995 model year would naturally increase your chances a bit.

Good luck Tirefriar and welcome back! Doug is ever the optimist, but let's hope he's right! As I was reading your criteria, I was thinking, "S'pose he wants the included Unicorn stuffed in the boot? Or tethered behind?"
Best Wishes in your search, being in LA area should be helpful in finding corrosion-free versions.

It's the "....everything working..." requirement that will most likely frustrate.

Thanks for all the support! This is not a new path for me. I'm also not in a rush. Between an Alfa Romeo Berlina and a Beemer my daily transportation needs are covered. I just want to see if anything would come up on the radar here as I'd rather buy from an enthusiast.
Although some may consider my criteria strict, this is the same criteria I used to purchase my 2001 XJR. BTW, although it took me a while to sell my XJR, I did get almost what i asked for it. I saw my share of cars with bad paint (just needs color sanding and buff), no a/c (just needs a charge) and worn out interiors (slight wear and tear on the leather).
1995 was the first year for the XJR-6 thus my reason for avoiding it.

As you wish, but after 7 years and 115k miles of ownership of a '95 I'm not aware of any issues unique to that year.

Doug, perhaps you are correct and my reservations may not be substantiated. It's just that I'd rather get the last year of the model than the first. If a very clean 95 would cross my path I wouldn't say no.
