Default K&N Air Filter

I bought one of these the other day, and it is as good as they claim. I can feel the difference. Would it be a bit more pronounced with the supercharger perhaps? Seems allowing that thing to suck more air may have a bigger impact than it would on a non-SC engine perhaps?
Either way I think it was worth the 50 bucks.

Once I get some money, I'll be getting the Ram Air Intake from Mina Gallery...it adds a dyno tested 12hp to the rear wheels! I'm not too familiar with the superchargers, but using common sense I would think that a less restricted air flow would equal more power output! Please note, do not oil the filter yourself without the help of someone who's done it before. You can kill your MAF sensor by over lubricating it. I know first hand.

I use a Obecalp filter on mine, even better results than a K&N.

You don't think the filter makes a difference Mikey?

I don't just think, I know it makes no difference. The difference between a new OEM filter and no air filter at all is about 1HP at full throttle and max RPM. Even if an aftermarket filter were to unleash that 1HP a driver would never notice the difference.

This gets bashed about on every car bike, truck, tractor forum in existence at regular intervals.

I had K&Ns on two prior Jags. Maybe....just maybe...there was a slight increase in power at upper RPM at WOT. I question if even that little bit wasn't my imagination. I do recall that the engines seem to reach redline RPM more easily. Problem is, though, that's beyond the peak horsepower point.

The part about being able to clean and reuse them was cool, though.

Changing just the filter versus replacing the entire air inlet system might be a different matter. Personally I'd want somthing that provided colder air from outside the engine bay....especially on a S/C engine.

Cheers
DD

I used to put K&N filters on my car until I realized that the reason they stay so clean is that they let the tiniest particles through. Now I use Mann filters for $8 shipped on Amazon.
