Default Leaper Fell Off!

Yesterday while I was waxing my car my elbow slightly bumped the leaper and crash! down it went. It seems as though the wire going through the hole on the bottom of the leaper has completely rusted away to the point that it could no longer hold. I bought some wire from the hardware store the exact same size as what was on it before. How do I put it back on? My car feels naked without it!

Unscrew the plastic nut under the hood, that will release the whole assembly. There are two pieces, the leaper and a base. The base is kinda glued down, but you can ease it off gently.
There should have been a spring that the wire ran through in order to hold the ornament down tight. Not sure how to re-affix that, guess you will have to be resourceful.
Other option is pay $113 on eBay like I did.

I used some wire to secure it under the hood in case anyone tries to steal it and then I used some silicone to hold it in place. Worked out pretty well.
