Looking at a New XJR in NC
I am traveling to NC from NY to look at a '97 XJR on Wednesday. Speedo doesn't work. The owner spoke of a part in the wheel that rusted out. The gas gauge only functions until it hits a quarter tank. The front seat has a tear in it.
Otherwise the car is in excellent condition and is a great deal. Is the speedo fix part of the abs wheel sensor system? Is it very expensive to fix. I saw abs wheel sensors at $400 a piece per wheel.
I would use my gps as a speedo on my way home. Is there a comparable gps unit which could be used to replace the speedo temporarily.
The only other problem is the XJR is the same color as my '96 XJ6 I just bought this summer.
Any thoughts or input would be appreciated. Thank you!

The speedo signal does come from one of the rear wheels speed sensors....left side, I think. Seems to me that the ABS failure light would also be glowing if the wheel speed sensor was faulty.
The tank sending units often fail on these cars. Hopefully that's all you'll need for the fuel gauge. Very easy to replace.
Cheers
