Hi! It's been a while guys but I think acquiring my dream car is on the horizon. Always wanted a stock black XJR so, I'm going to jump on the opportunity. I'm selling my '94 MB S420 to get the cash so wish me luck!

good luck. I think it's a good choice. You may (probably will) have times of frustration and may miss Mercedes reliability, but the XJR is a rewarding car. It is fundamentally good and reliable, but has 20 year old plastic parts and electronics that can give grief.
don't skimp on good oil, genuine parts, etc.
I have changed mine to X308 18" asteroid wheels with Bridgestone Potenza tyres (R003 I think), and they are brilliant.
Get Andy Stodart's bracket (advances whole ignition curve 3 degrees) - see long thread about DIY improvements in this X300 section. It is a good inexpensive modification that should yield a benefit.

Life is short - we should all own an XJR and a V12 Jag at some point if possible !

Thanks. I will baseline the car myself as much a I can so I can enjoy the reliability! Just adding stuff to my Ebay cart to buy when the time comes. Most aftermarket stuff can be just as good as OEM plus cross referenced with OEM Ford products the way to go as well.
I like the Asteroids but, the 17x8 wheels that came on the car from factory are the ones for me. Although I can imagine the 255.45.17 rubber may difficult to find these days.
XJRengineer's bracket is a must have for all X300 owners...plus a backup of Ford LS, T-bird, S-type ignition coils in the trunk
The MB is a nice car and it has it's silly problems but yeah, you might be right about missing the reliability but, the Jag needs to be with me and I feel that the X300 are just as good if not better than what's rolling around today. I often refer to them as a European car guy's best kept secret

UPDATE: I haven't sold my car yet...sigh. Now the guy with the XJR is telling me it won't start. Just crank. Could be the CPS or the fuel pump. I'll just have to be more patient. I need a running car to start with. I like these cars but taking on a non runner simply will not do.

I reckon you could grab a bargain. With what you know and the help you can get here you should get the XJR. Just keep the XJ6 you have now until the XJR runs. Knock the value of your XJ6 off the price of his XJR. It will be crank position sensor or fuel pump or a dodgy connection.

Go for it.

I don't have any Jag at this point. I'm still trying to sell my S420 Mercedes. I'll never buy a car that doesn't run because it can always be more than anticipated. Especially with European cars which parts can be pricey compared to other European cars. My experience tells me to be patient and what I want will come and don't settle.
