Nasty looks
Has anybody ever noticed while your driving how many dirty looks you get from other drivers? It seems to happen to me all the time. people at stop lights just stare at me not the car. And I never flaunt it and race it around town like an a** Im 17 and my parents gave me this car (which was theirs since new). I just treat it like another car. Except the excessive car washes and preventative maintenance
Yep.
nothing has changed.
I got those same looks at your age waaaaaay back in my first Jag, a MK7M.
Progressively got less, or maybe I just did not care so much as I aged, and changed Jags along lifes path.
Now I get a different kid of stare, with the X300/S Type/MK10. Maybe its the grey hair.

I know when I was 17, after I had to save up all my chore money to buy my **** box Fiat, and I saw some kid with a Jaaag, I don't think I would intentionally give the driver a dirty look, but I know I would be thinking: "How could he afford a Jag? His parents probably gave it to him. I wish my parents gave me a nice car. POS Fiat!" The expression on my face at that moment might have been of disgust.
It was only later in life that I learned, that people will be jealous of what they interpret is an unfair situation. Driving my S Type, I sometimes get those looks. But what the other drivers do not know, is that my used S Type cost less than their used Corolla. If they have regrets, then it is not up to me to make them feel better about the purchase decision they made. They have to live with it, learn from it, and do different next time.
But this is also a double-edged sword. When we benefit from a situation, realize that fate might not have been as kind to us. That kid in the Fiat might not be in the same economic situation as you. His parents are trying to move up to a higher social class, building a house in a better neighborhood, working longer hours, scrimping to save money so that the living conditions will be better for their children. That the kids will go to better schools, have friends of higher standards, and get better opportunities.
Sometimes that which we take for granted, is highly prized by others less fortunate than ourselves. Yes, we worked our way to our position in life, we toiled when others played. But a lot of times, it was pure luck that made the difference. Or Karma, if you believe in that.

I got my S TYPE when I was 22. Because I look young and drive a 'jag' people have a hit of jealousy and think I'm a daddy's boy with lots of money. Gives out a false impression to the girls though and they love it haha
im 25 now driving a brand new XJ and ALWAYS get dirty looks
and ive been driving brand new XJ's since I was 18........so imagine all the looks ive gotten in the past 7 years, more so the looks I got when i was 18. ive gotten used to it by now.
id say for me it wasnt all dirty looks.....but rather 50% looks of confusion, especially when i was younger....."who the hell is this kid? why is he driving an old mans XJ?"

Erm... nope.
I've not had this many nice comments or been let out of junctions this often since I had a Triumph Spitfire! But then it's all relative - having come from a long line of BMWs perhaps people actually just hate me slightly less?!
