Question New keyfob?

Just wondering, has anyone esle tried to get a new one? I went to the dealer awhile back and I remember them wanting an absurd amount for it. Even on ebay I was surprised how much it was, I seriously just want to go up to the seller and be like "you ain't got gold, it's a key fob" :/

I found one in a junkyard and reprogrammed it myself.
it's quite simple, detailed instructions can be found under tech tips at www.coventrywest.com
paid all of five dollars for it, the guy had no idea how much cash the dealer wanted me to fork over for it.

but! it has to be of the correct frequency. If memory serves, there were only two different frequencies used for the X300 fobs. however, you need the old remote to verify which one you have. If you open the back of it, it should be inscribed somewhere. I got lucky with mine and found one with the right frequency. I didn't even check, just programmed it and the car chirped away as I soaked in the revelry of keyless entry.

maaan you lucked out with the junk yard! I have yet to see an x300 in my local junk yard, which I imagine is good in a way lol

My friend got his to work eventually but the buttons were all nasty and the battery cover was missing but it's better than nothing I guess. New one would be awesome.

yeah the junkyard I went to only has one X300. there's a whole mess of xj40's and series III's and even a series I hiding back there, but I've picked that X300 to pieces.

then I found a X300 vdp a little north of where I was with a completely obliterated front end that I nabbed the emblems off of.

and just three weeks ago I got the XJ6 pictured on the left painted back to its original black and now its so smokin'.

minus my first truck, I've always owned black cars.

and thank you :]

I got it painted at the local econo place, which is notorious for their orange peel, but I gave the paint techs the evil eye through the whole process, so it's half decent at least, and I watched them while they painted the hood to make sure it was absolutely flawless.
I just have to wax the **** out of it and hope for the best I suppose.

Yeah same, just older generations at out junkyards.. The whole time i've been going to my local one, I have yet to see one, and that's probably a couple years we're talking about.

Yeah if I would have found one...ooo I would have gotten as much as I could off of it. Anything I could get, or at least as much as I could pay for :P

yeah dude, it looks really good. I love black cars, especially with the right amount of tinted windows... They look so mean lol It's just a bummer how fast they become dirty and stuff, but it's way worth it if you're on top of cleaning them.

I'm sure it'll come out great, especially after a wax. They look awesome in the pictures!

Default Key Fob

I had the same problem. Got one on ebay for $47 and reprogramed it myself (apprx 10 min). I saw a few fobs come and go for about $50-$55, probably to a reseller willing to have a higher max bid, but hang in there and you will get lucky. (the new use fob was in better condition that the one I got with the car)

If you look around on the UK version of eBay, there is a guy that is selling the rubber inserts for the buttons on your fob. My auction came with batteries too. It cost just a few dollars, even after shipping and now my old fobs look just like new. If I can find exactly who he was, I will post it, but do a search for x300 fob buttons or something like that.

If you save a search for x300 fob, every once in a while you will get someone who will post a buy it now link for one for around 10$ not knowing that others are getting almost 10x that. Good luck in your fob-hunt.

I am lucky and have two for each of my cars, and they have the two different frequencies ('95 and '97). Once I replaced the buttons it was pretty cool. My 95 has 150k miles on it and I have it restored to almost factory mint (except for the stereo which has bluetooth/ipod capabilities). I put the old stereo away in the closet in case it ever becomes necessary to reinstall it.

Peace!
Jack

I've seen the lower 315 (or whatever frequency that is) sell for $20-50 in the low range. I never see the 413 selling for less than $100. Of course, my car is the 413.
