Newbie with Harmon Kardon system replacement question ofcourse!
Hi everyone....I tried to search for this info but could not find what I needed.
I want to replace the H/K amped system and needed to know if there is a harness adapter or if I have to hard wire the head unit in. Also... Do I need to wire each speaker or can I use the factory harness?
Thanks for any and all info.

I had it all rewired. The wiring there might work, but I think with the effort it would take you'd be much better off just running new and better wire.
As far as a harness adapter goes, I just hard wired it in, I am not sure if there is one or not.

I think I read there is a harness over in the UK that someone found. Try a search for 'radio harness' in all of the XJ* areas, see what you find, maybe you'll stumble on the thread of which I speak. G'luck!
Well.... I am really thankful for the responses. Even though I kind of knew it would be bad news, I was hoping there was some sort of secret to avoiding the bigger job! The car has only 60k on it and I plan on driving this thing till 300k! I might as well bite the bullet and put in a complete system that would keep me happy for a few years! Thanks again.
By the way... I have read a lot of posts regarding head units and I seem to keep coming across threads where people swear by pioneer radios. Don't get me wrong, I think they make some pretty good stuff but isn't there much better than pioneer or do they have something going on that I am just not aware of?
You really can't go wrong these days with any of the major brands, there's just so many to choose from.
Check out Crutchfield.com, the've just released some very cool looking units...might as well get the very latest and hi-tech!
