Default NOT IN PARK JAGUAR XJ6 96 Please help, thanks.

Hello everyone, just had a quick question, sometimes my car wont start because its not in the park position all the way, when the days do come that the car wont start I push the levler further in park on the gear selector and it starts fine, it just seems like its just slightly off in the selector, is there a way to ajust this? because it seems like its just barley off the park mode. Thanks

The shifter has a cable adjustment that will direct the Rotary switch into the correct position. I did at one time have the adjustment directions but I am unable to find it.

My 04 had this problem. I took apart the whole center column, and there was cable adjustments there on the shifter. The problem with mine was that on the actual transmission , there the lever that hooks up to the cable. it was held on by 2 allen bolts, one of the came off and the other was loose.

I tighten the loose one, and looked for where the other one fell. Found it and put it on extra tight to ensure that never happens again.

so, check out the shifter assemmbly on the actual transmission. Afterall that was the problem on mine.

I am not sure how it is done but I think StrateLoss has a little experience with it. If I recall correctly the adjustment is up top and the adjusting marks are under at the trans on the side. If I find my info I will post it for you and others. Good Luck!

my car (04) had cable adjustments inside the center console( no matter how much I adjusted it they would work the same whether in loose or tightest position), and it had it on the actual transmission body( which is where im talking about) those two bolts loosened up and wouldnt move that lever the way the shifter was telling it to move.

that may not be your problem as I cant look, but our symptoms sound exactly the same, you can do an advanced search for threads started by me, I made a thread detailing it when it first happened so the details should be more crisp there, on my mobile hennce no link and wall of text.

you have to go under the vehicle and on the side of the transmission there is your safety neutral switch. If you just loosen the 3 nuts on the side of the neutral switch it will let you make a small adjustment that may solve your problem. If not you have to loosen the shifter cable on the top of the neutral switch. see thread member JC2161 post on shifter cable.
