Ocassional plumes of smoke
Hurtling home down the outside lane of the motorway on Thursday.
When looking in the rear veiw mirror there was an occassional plume
of light smoke from one of the rear exhausts (drivers side).
Any suggestions it lasted about 5 secs and there wasnt a set time between each
plume...

Expensive
You have to take every thing apart just as in a complete head and valve job. If you're that far into it you might as well have the head done and put in valves and springs too. From what I've heard the lower end of a Jag engine is pretty bullit proof.
Sounds expensive? You did buy a Jag, right? The thing is you have to pull the valves out to replace the guides. you have to remove the valvetrain assembly to pull the valves, you have to pull the head to do most of it and so on. The upside is that reconditioned heads add power and gas milage, the better gas milage will help to defer the cost and at today's gas prices who knows where they will level out but I seriously don't think they're done going up so the savings increase over the spread.
