Odd clunk when first leaving after sitting for a day or more, transmission mount?
Here's an odd one.... after the XJR has sat for a while (perhaps a day or two), I'll get a somewhat metallic "clunk" when riding over a moderate bump such as a raised ridge or manhole cover that sounds similar to a bushing failure like when my rear shocks/springs bushings turned to dust...
However after a couple/three "clunks" (decreasing in intensity) and less than 100 yards of driving, it goes away regardless of the size bump I run over, never to be heard again until the next time the car has sat for a while.
Since it is intermittent, I haven't isolated it yet, but it sounds like it may be coming from the transmission mount, and I swear I felt it through the gear selector one time.
If so, that's odd first because that mount (at least the bushing) was refreshed about two-ish years ago by the previous owner. To be fair, that was 30-40k miles ago though. It's odd secondly because I don't see how it could "clunk" a couple times, then clear up. If this were some hydraulic based damper, I might see that, but the transmission mount is just a spring and bushing as I recall and if it has failed I would think it would clunk constantly when hit with a bump of the right intensity??
I know that isn't a lot to go on yet, but any insight on how to isolate where to identify the issue is much appreciated.
FYI, since the following is a common cause; the rear shocks, shock bushings and rear spring bushings were replaced about 18 months ago by yours truly too, and the sound does not seem to be coming from the rear.
