Default odd locking problem with solution

Not long ago while driving my '95 XJ I stopped at a store and pushed the lock button on the remote to lock up. Nothing happened. Tried again with the same result. Usually when that happens I lock the car with the key.

This time (don't know why except I've been driving Jags since 1982) I decided to push the unlock button on the remote and then went back to the lock button. The remote lock function worked perfectly??????

Maybe a couple of weeks later I noticed that the drive away door lock function was not working. And when I opened the driver's door only the driver's door lock unlocked. Again I pushed the unlock button on the remote and that fixed the problem. Again ???????.

Maybe this will help some poor soul out there.

Yeah, I get that on mine. My best guess is that the security module won't lock the car when it thinks it is already locked. The security module is sending out the 'lock' signal when you drop it in D and assuming it has worked, when in fact it hasn't. If you press unlock, it all gets back in to sync and then lock will work correctly.

I'm getting my drive away locking disabled at the local Jag specialist as it can't be doing to the locks any favours.
