Default Odd noise from dash

I have noticed when I start driving my 96 XJ6, during the first few seconds there is a very quiet twang noise, almost like a spring unwinding. It sounds like it is coming from the drivers side dash. It only does it once, at the beginning of the drive. Would this have anything to do with the airbag, I read there is a clockspring, whatever that does.

I doubt that it could be the clockspring, as, despite its name it isn't really a spring in the conventional sense. It is effectively a coil of wiring inside a flat dispenser which allows the airbag on the steering wheel to stay connected as the wheel is turned from side to side. It is located high up in the steering column near the wheel itself. There is a spring in it, but not if the "twang" variety.
Try your brake or throttle pedal return springs. They could twang, and may do it continuously, and you just don't hear it when started and driving.

Can you be more specific about "when I start driving"

Does this mean it only happens when the car begins to move? Or does it happen when ignition is turned on? or when engine is started? Or is it a time thing regardless of other conditions?

not nearly as an exciting sound as the broken steering fore/aft shaft grinding away...
