Default ok found radiator fan relay but,

found radiator fan relay, (who the hell thought that was a good place to put it? I will get him round next year to hide the easter eggs)
and it all tests out ok
but my fans are still on, although they are not roaring away

maybe they should be on?

is there a change in jag specs on the 1996 model?
on my 1995 xj sport they are only on when engine is hot

any ideas?

cheers

I don't think there is something major other than change OBD I to OBD II

There is actually quite a lot that is different. I only know this because I replaced a driver front main harness in my '96 with one out of a '95 and **** was whacked for a good month until a few of the dealer mechanics and I sat and scratched our heads over their shop electrical diagrams.
Also since my '96 was whacked in the front so many times by insanely idiotic motorists, I had to make my own harness for the fans with 16 gauge wire, spade connectors, and zip ties. The fans never have been their old self since. No one seems to want to sell me just the cooling fan harness.
However, I do know that they are indeed different, as I confirmed with my man at coventrywest of atlanta, we had to look up the relay by VIN just to be absolutely sure.

And oddly enough, my '95 XJR had OBD II. hooked up my scanner and it threw multiple cylinder misfire and o2 sensors.

I'd probably still replace that control module and I'd bet you'd get good results.
How do you test a relay anyways?

the only way i could was get aout my trusty leatherman and pop the cover off the relay
and watch what happened and relay did what a relay should
no burnt contacts so i bit of tape and good as new

now i know the fan should be on (running slow)

some parts of it might be worn out, increased resistance or some other jazz, could be causing the slow fan speed. just an idea. I'd think the control modules would wear out like flashers would.
