Ok, how do I pop the trunk?
Got my XJ6 to the shop. If any didn't see my post in the intro section, this car had a fire in the engine compartment.
I am assuming that the trunk key trips a switch that engages a solenoid that unlocks the trunk. (Please correct me if I am wrong). Since the wiring harness under the hood is literally toast, I have no power.
I know some cars have an emergency cable that allows access. Does the Jag have such a feature?
Battery is in the trunk, no power to open the trunk. How can I get in?

Apart from the obvious option of using the key, liberally lubricated to coax the "mechanical" locking mechanism, there is another option. This has been covered numerous times, as a result of dead batteries locking people out of the trunk. It involves removing the rear licence plate, and hooking the trunk release rod, with a suitable thin screwdriver, passed through a small hole that is present. Do a search of the archives, under "trunk/boot release" and you will get lots of details.
This is a good reminder for everyone to actually *use* their trunk key from time to time to keep the mechanism operational. I exercise mine a couple times as part of my oil change ritual.

Got it opened. Had to fish a bent piece of wire through the hole and pull.
Looks like the tumblers are screwed, as I could not get the rod to move using the key. The key is turning about a quarter turn, but no rod movement.

Great reminder, I've never had a problem with mine, but found some liquid teflon at Lowe's the other day, and used a syringe to shoot some in my daughter's 03 S-Type driver's door lock that was jammed up. Couple of attempts with the key and it was free and working again, so I decided..."while I'm at it..." and went round shooting up all the cars' door and boot locks. All are operating nicely...think I need to repeat it at each oil change.
