Hey yall. I told you I'm new at this, so get ready for the first in probably a long line of stupid questions. Anyways, when I got the car from my father in law it had a CEL, which I need to get cleared to get inspected here. Got the code read for me, p1400, or EGR Valve.
So I'm guessing cleaning the EGR valve would be step one, and replacing it step two? Didn't look too difficult from what I've been reading, and the part is pretty cheap, so I think I might try this one myself.
I guess my main question is, before I do any of that, is there something I don't know I should be trying first to rectify the problem before I go through the trouble of getting access to the EGR to clean it?

I had a code for the EGR a couple of years ago. I cleaned it and haven't had a problem since.

You might also want to call the dealer or Jaguar North America and have them run your VIN to see if you have had the EGR recall performed. If not you might get a new EGR out of it, and the recall addresses issues with the EGR 'cleaning' cycle:
