Where's a good place to buy replacement plastic trim piece that goes around the shifter's leather base? While installing a new radio, I kinda broke it :-/

 

I found one on ebay.

 

I’m sure this question has come up many times, but is anyone currently making this chrome trim? I know eBay has some listings, but none of them include all three connection pieces, and the ones I’ve found in Europe are way overpriced.

I was thinking it might be possible to make the trim out of metal, then either spray-paint it chrome or have it chromed professionally. That should make it last longer and come off without breaking. I have a friend with a CNC machine, so I’m going to see if it’s something he can make—assuming there aren’t any good alternatives out there.

 

I bought one on ebay about a year ago. The tabs for these don't seem to fit properly leading to them getting broken easily. The new one I have isn't totally secure. When I got to P sometimes pops up a little.

 

I have spoken to my friend with a CNC machine. We are going to make an attempt to produce one, out of a metal and get them chromed or paint them. I was also looking at maybe doing a 3D print and then paint it. I have a 3D camera but have not gotten very good to make something this complex yet. I may give it a shot just to see if I can come close

 

the original being made of plastic and a plastic chrome finish maybe 3 D printing if it can be smoothed before paint finish

The initial batch I'm sure will sell out covering the minimum amounts of material ie 1 quart finish , the tabs can be metal bar inserted before printer build up , not pacticed this skill

those that sell the printer may let you use showroom model if you tell them the Jaguar X300 story and larger need

Well, it took more than just today to get it right, but I’m really close to having it finalized. This was made on a 3D printer using ABS. As you can see, I added some pretty solid supports. I’ve tested them out, and they seem to work really well. I used chrome spray, and I honestly don’t think you can tell the difference—except that these are actually more sturdy.

I have broken a couple of those fragile chromed bits in my nearly 20 years of X305 ownership but when I replaced the last one I carefully filed the attachment clips and the mounting lugs so the chromed bit can be removed and replaced smoothly with little effort and less risk of breaking the delicate bits.

This has worked well for the last several years but it is great to know that replacements are available.

I need a long list of 30 year old plastic parts that are cracked as they've gone brittle. Where to find?

 

The little piece that holds the center louvers parallel is often broken. Also, the cupholder assembly. It was kind of useless as a cupholder anyway for anything bigger than a 10 oz cup of coffee. We demand giant cupholders nowadays. Plenty of ashtrays though.
