Exclamation Power steering noise after reservoir change

power steering HELP!!

my 96 x300 power steering is whining. when the car is on the steering works ok but i get a whine on both sides when i turn. another thinh is while the car is running, the fluid stays in the canister but when i turn it off it comes spewing out of the small hole in the resevoir cap thus emptying it out. I changed the reservoir because the one I had on was thought to be leaking. Any ideas?

It sounds like air is still in the system.

It will self bleed as long as you keep fluid in the reservoir.

I had a similar problem with a coach a couple of weeks ago, all is fine now.

The bleed/fill procedure is to fill, start engine, crank steering wheel full lock left and right several times. Top up fluid.

If you want to reduce the strain on the steering while doing this on dry pavement, put two plastic bags in front of the front tires and drive over them. The plastic bags will let the tires turn freely.

Very clever! Just added some MaxLife PS fluid yesterday and could have used this trick.
