Default Power Steering Pump?

Hey Lads,

Recently, the XJ6 has been having a small issue with the steering.

Most times it works fine but occasionally it feels like it goes stiff. As you are turning the wheel, it feels like there are hard spots in the rotation but it is not consistent.

Does this seem like a power steering pump failing? Kind of makes sense with the symptoms I am witnessing.

How much work is involved to change out the PSP on these cars? Haven't dug into it yet.

Bernie

There are MANY TSBs in the large file area for diagnosing and all the tools/procedures required for Power Assisted Steering faults

10-04 and 10-07am will likely help you.

Have you checked the fluid level, looked for leaks? Issues with Jaguars seem sometimes to be cyclical and at the moment it appears to be the turn (no pun intended) of the power steering. There have been a lot of posts on power steering issues lately!

My XJS does the same thing. I have to check the belt tension on the pump.
