Question about XJR throttle adjustment

Question about XJR throttle adjustment
I acquired an XJR. It seems very nice, save for a couple of minor issues. One thing that's annoying is the throttle lag. When I drive the car it seems as if I need to take up some slack in the throttle cable, before the car starts responding. Same thing at idle. I step on the gas a little and nothing happens. No change in RPM, nothing. Eventually, after I take up some slack in the throttle cable, the RPMs start to go up. Can somebody share any instructions or tips on adjusting the throttle on XJR?
Do I need to use IDS to make the ECU re-learn the TPS after adjusting the throttle?

Somewhere in the archives is the official cable adjusting procedure.
It might just be me being a bit dense but I could never get my head wrapped around the instructions. In my XJR days I simply tightened the cables to the point where the slack was *just* removed and left it at that.
My opinion....lacking any research or serious investigation, mind you....is that the cables eventually stretch, making adjustment difficult.
Cheers

In my younger years I used to repair throttle cables on my cars and motorcycles. It wasn't all that difficult back then. How expensive are new throttle cables anyway? Are they worth the trouble?

For a new cable try jaguarmerriamparts.com, for a good salvaged one eBay is worth a look.
If you can't find a suitable replacement cable, you may be able to shorten your stretched cable using cable ends available from racing supply houses like summitracing.com. Search terms like "throttle cable kit," "throttle cable end," "cable quick disconnect," etc.
Cheers,
Don
