Radio sound is distorted
I havea 1996 XJ6. The factory radio is having problems playing music. The rear speakers are working perfectly but the front speakers distort horribly everytime the bass hits. I know its not the speakers because I replaced them with new ones. I also isolated the sound and faded the sound to compare the rear and front speakers at the same volume. The front speakers distort horribly whereas the rears play fine. I assume there is something wrong with the radio head unit. Is anyone experiencing this problem or know what the problem may be. Thanks.

RE: Radio sound is distorted
Hi
I think you will find the speakers are really not up to much. I changed my head unit and they were still the same. I think it's due to the paper cones.
I have replaced them now and added a bass amp in the trunk and the difference is significant.
Hope this helps

I you put new speakers in were they factory ones? If so change them to something aftermarket. The worst aftermarket ones will be better than the factory ones Jag put in there.
If not, it may be your radio. Last time I checked, the radio for a 97 XK was $326.00. I am sure the one for yours will be somewhere in that price range also.
