RE: Transmission/Gearbox Light on 1995 XJR
Hi Everyone,
I've had the dreaded "Check Gearbox/Transmission Light" on the XJR on and off for the last 1-2 months. The Local Jaguar Specialist have looked at the issue and found the following Fault Codes
PO743
PO1179
Doesn't seem to be much info on the Web for either of these codes. Originally they though it might be some sort of Earth Wiring Issue and followed the Earth Points... Cleaned the Contacts and re-attached however that hasn't solved the issue.
The Light can be on for 2-3 days and then dissapear over night or after a 1-2 hour stop.... Could come back within 10km or 100km... reasonably random.....
The Major Drama is I only get the first 3 Gears when in this "Semi Limp Home Mode" so Highway Cruising at 100kmh (70mph) is around 3000rpm (Not good on Petrol)
Any Ideas?

p0743 troque converter clutch problem (TCC) either the torque converter solenoid in the trani is failed.. or wiring from the trani computer to transmission faulty or internal trani harness faulty.. i wud start by removing the trani TCM you will see it under glove box.. 4 8 mm bolts removes the module.. and check the pins for water damage..
p01179 has to many numbers.. there is a p1179 which is for running rich unrelated to trani.. may fuel related.. or mass aif flow faulty..
