Current rubber is in fine shape, but will be replacing the glass soon. Wondering if it's typical / advisable for a new gasket? They're not cheap nor available from Pep Boys should the installer need one...

When I needed new windshield glass, they sent out a seasoned glass tech. He was very careful, as the rubber was likely more than the glass.
He successfully replaced the glass without needing new rubber.

The screen rubber is just a finishing strip not a seal and can be removed/replaced independently of the screen. The screen is bonded to the frame.

I have the feeling that this is posted in the wrong section. There is NO model year so the OP might be asking about the Series I, II, II XJ6 that ACTUALLY had replaceable windscreen seals.
