Default 1996 XJ6 Dying and dashboard going bananas

I just replaced two ignition coils on my 96 XJ6. They are ones that are made in China. Now the car will stall almost immediately after starting it if it is not parked on a level road. The lights on the dashboard all flash as well. No codes seem to be coming up when a code reader is plugged into the car. Please help!

Suggest take the 2 coils to O'Reilly Auto Parts store for they have a new instore service that plugs the coils into a very sophisticated tester that may show something . You may have dirty electricity effecting other systems caused by the new coils . Call the location first for not all store have the tester or are aware of it . Store locater

The coils are probably faulty right out of the box. Not uncommon. In this case NEW stands for Never, Ever, Worked!

May be something to do with your charging system that just coincidentally occurred now . You may an alternator voltage regulator or separate rectifier going out which you have to remove the whole alternator out and the auto parts store will spin it up in a tester and may show something but there is also a power signal smoothing capacitor that mounted under the car under the air filter box axis . It is cylindrical ,blue ,and about 9 inches tall . You can test it yourself without removing it with a digital multimeter . Charged capacitor are dangerous as a rule so unless you know how to safely discharge them I would not mess with it . I did find a new manufactured X300 alternator for 100 dollars on ebay but I can't say for it's quality . But I do know the " rebuilt " alternators are only rebuilt to the component that failed so the other components can fail the next day say the rectifier diodes or the brushes .

And everything is OK if the car is parked on a level road?

I can't imagine any coil reacting to how the car is parked

Cheers

Strange as Doug said , have you had a good look around to check to see if you have disconnected something else inadvertently whilst changing colis .

When you changed the coils was there any oil in the wells to speak of?
